Public Health IT (PHIT) is an independent platform dedicated to making public health technology visible, verifiable, and accessible to the people it serves. We exist because public health professionals deserve to know what's possible, and communities deserve to understand the systems built to protect them.

Our Mission

Public health IT systems are among the most consequential infrastructure in existence. They track disease, manage vaccines, monitor outbreaks, and inform decisions that affect entire populations. Yet most people, including many public health professionals, have no idea what systems exist, who's using them, or what they can actually do.

We're changing that by building the world's most comprehensive, community-validated directory of public health IT systems. Our mission is simple: make the global landscape of public health technology visible, accurate, and accessible to everyone who needs it. Whether you're a health department director choosing a new system, a public health professional seeking solutions others have already built, or a community member who deserves to understand the technology protecting your health, this directory is for you.

What We Do

We catalog and verify. Our team researches public health IT systems globally: who built them, what they do, and where they're deployed. But we don't stop there. We send that information directly to the people who actually run these systems and ask them to validate it, correct it, and add what we might have missed. This is what makes our directory community-validated rather than just another secondhand list.

We make data accessible. The Global Directory for Public Health IT is free to search and explore. Anyone can join to download the full, verified dataset monthly. We limit free access to core information (system names and the entities using them) because we respect that public health data requires thoughtful stewardship. Deeper insights, including full system profiles, features, and procurement data, are available through premium access.

We share knowledge. Through our content and analysis, we document what the field is learning: what works, what doesn't, and why it matters. We believe the most valuable insights come from the people actually building and running these systems, not from outside observers.

Our Vision

Global public health is held back by fragmentation and invisibility. Solutions that work in one place rarely reach the places that need them most, not because they don't exist, but because no one knows they're there. The field has no shared memory and no common place where proven approaches get recorded, verified, and passed forward.

We're building that place. A global directory where public health IT professionals can see what's possible, learn from each other, and make better decisions about the systems their communities depend on.

How We're Built

The Global Directory is developed and maintained on infrastructure provided by Seagan, Inc., Nancy Ejuma's research and consulting firm. We're transparent about this because how something is built shouldn't be a mystery. We are embedding the Directory here on PublicHealthIT.com so you can search it seamlessly. We'd rather you see exactly what you're looking at than discover it later and wonder why we didn't say so up front.

Public Health IT itself doesn't sell data. That's intentional. The Directory remains free and community-validated. Premium services, including faster updates, bulk access, and advanced analytics, are available separately through Seagan, Inc., keeping our core mission independent from commercial pressures.
