Public Health IT (PHIT) is an independent platform dedicated to transparency, knowledge-sharing, and public education in public health technology. Founded and led by Nancy Ejuma, PHIT exists to capture the institutional knowledge of public health IT professionals and make it accessible to the communities these systems serve. This work is supported by Seagan, Inc., Nancy's research and consulting firm serving public health agencies.

Our Mission

Public health can only reach its full potential when the IT systems supporting it are strong, transparent, and built on shared knowledge. These systems are unlike any other. They operate under the weight of local law, cover entire populations, and depend on mandated data flows that affect every person in a community. Getting them right matters enormously and getting them wrong costs lives. That’s why we exist.

What We Do

We create platforms where public health technology professionals can tell their stories, the wins, the hard lessons, and everything in between. We believe the most valuable source of insight into public health IT isn’t an algorithm; it’s the humans who work inside these systems every day. We are built to capture that knowledge, preserve it, and make it useful.We are also committed to radical transparency. Communities deserve to understand the systems built to protect them: who owns them, what data the law requires to be collected, how that data flows, and what public health agencies do with it.

Our Vision

Global public health is held back by a lack of visibility and data sharing. A proven solution deployed in one city or country rarely finds its way to the places that need it most, not because it doesn't exist, but because no one knows it's there. The field has no shared memory. There is no common place where what works gets recorded, verified, and passed on.We're changing that through independent coverage and analysis of the systems, solutions, and stories that shape public health IT worldwide.

The Global Directory

Seagan, Inc. is building a Global Directory for Public Health IT, a living index and knowledge-sharing network where public health entities contribute their knowledge and, in return, gain access to what others are doing. PHIT will cover this initiative as it develops, documenting what works, what doesn't, and what the field is learning along the way.
